Incorporated as a Dance Company in 1992, under the tutelage of Noriko Kumagai and Nakao Ikemiya “Nomade~S” has become one of the most eminent companies in the contemporary dance field in Japan. To “Nomade~S” dance is mankind’s search for life in the bounds of society and country. In searching for new methods of expression, its choreography combines elements of traditional Japanese theatre with contemporary dance and performance techniques in an expressive dance style.

“Gesicht und Geschichte/.Face and Phases” is amongst the newest productions of “Nomade~S”, that has been already broadly internationally presented. In its two parts – “Face” and “Phases” the dance expresses in a poetic and very intimate form different sensations of the place of every man in the flow of history.

A short, intimate night, known only to me. The place of every single man in history visible in the light coming through the window. This is my stage. On a pile of books falls snow. The dancers move euphorically and free like seeds scattered to the winds. The movements develop from short stories that gradually become more and more dynamic and elusive… A dance, that describes different sensations and pictures a pulsating subject.
