Dimitar Kabakov is one of the new names in Bulgarian drama. “Gleeds” (2002) is nominated amongst 37 plays, applied for the first edition of the competition for a chamber play on contemporary issues, organized by Theatre “199”. The play is about the Bulgarian Mohammedan woman Atidje, whose destiny had led her away in the heart of the Rhodopi mountain and she tries to collect the scattered memories of the past. Vazkresia Viharova – one of the most distinguished Bulgarian directors in the field of the anthropological and physical theatre, brings in the performance of Nevena Mandajieva elements of the Christian ritual Pomanata and of the Moslem memorial ceremony Mevlid (Commemoration before death).

… the objects, the space and the actresses’ behavior on the stage have ritual elements, but they are combined in a specific way and don’t claim to be an ethnic restoration but rather communicate with the whole.
